I’ve got some super fun recipes for you this week! I am so looking forward to the weekend and lots of cooking and baking! We have a fun weekend planned. A family dinner on Sunday and getting ready for Valentine’s Day later on in the week. Here’s what’s cooking in the Smallwood house for the week of February 9, 2018…
LUNCH/DINNER PREP FOR THE WEEK:
I’ve spent the past week looking for some new and unique soup recipes for lunches. This recipe for Broccoli Cheddar Soup at smittenkitchen.com looks really yummy! A big pot of soup and my Apple and Cranberry Salad should be just enough to get us through the last week before winter vacation!
This is a favorite in our house, especially on a cold winter day. There is nothing like setting dinner up in the morning in the crock pot, smelling it while it cooks all day, and then serving a meal that makes everyone in your house happy. My kiddos literally gobble this up and this dish was Nate’s suggestion when I asked what we should make this weekend. I’ll make a pot of basmati rice to go along with the pork. One note on this… the recipe I chose here is from Wegman’s and features a bbq spice blend and sauce both made by Wegman’s. If you don’t live near a Wegmans, you can swap the BBQ sauce for one of your choice, and then season the pork with brown sugar, salt and pepper (I like Papa Joe’s for this) before placing the roast in the slow cooker.
I’m always looking for new and delicious ways to make vegetables. I’m sure the sweetness added by the shallots will make this green bean recipe a favorite in our house.
My family is visiting this weekend and they love baked goods. I figured the cheddar biscuits from Sally’s Baking Addiction would be a nice side to go along with the pork tenderloin, and will also be great with the broccoli cheddar soup in our lunch boxes.
BAKING AND STOCKING THE FREEZER:
My mom and sister love sugar cookies, and will absolutely love these heart shaped beauties! For this baking project, I’m going to use my recipe for Sugar Cookies with Buttercream Icing, but I will cut the cookies out as hearts for Valentine’s Day. The kids chose a bunch of fun, Valentine’s day sprinkles at Target so this should be a lot of fun!
If for some reason you aren’t feeling the sugar cookies, here is one other cookie option for you. This is my newest recipe on mapleandthyme.com and by far my current favorite cookie to eat! Filled with big, huge, milk chocolate chips and perfectly toasted hazelnuts, this will be a great cookie alternative if you aren’t feeling the sugar cookies.
OMG! Is this for real? Babka is one of my favorite breads… but babka filled with Nutella!?! I can’t wait to try it!!! I’m planning to bake one of these loaves immediately, and then save the other piece of dough in the freezer for a future bread baking day.
Valentine’s Day Menu:
The final recipes for this post are for Valentine’s Day… I gave Nate and John two choices. Go out for dinner, or make “something fancy” at home. They chose the fancy, at home route, so here is our dinner plan.
Nate and John will be so psyched to make heart shaped pizzas. I’ll serve the pizzas with some freshly sliced carrots and apples for a yummy and easy heart shaped dinner.
Need I say more??? These are so pretty and sure to be absolutely delicious, as is everything else from Sally’s Baking Addiction. We’ve never made cake pops so I’m really excited to give it a try.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with yummy recipes that give you a head start on next week!
Happy cooking and baking! Amanda
